Vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat, such as red meat, poultry, seafood etc. While some vegetarians may or may not consume animal by-products such as milk honey, and cheese, Vegans do not indulge at all. Many persons adopt the vegetarian lifestyle for different reasons, but most will agree that is out of respect for life. This stems from both religious and humanitarian beliefs alike. adopted for different reasons. The three main reasons that persons chose to adopt a Vegan lifestyle are: 1) Animal rights- Animals are friends not food. 2) Environment- farms tend to aid in the destruction of the environment. 3) Health- We were not meant to consume or digest animal meat or animal by-products.
Benefits of a Vegan diet Eating animal fats and proteins has been shown in studies to raise a person's risk of developing cancer, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, heart disease, and a number of other illnesses and conditions. The fat and protein content of cow's milk is very different from human milk - vegans say that we are not designed for consuming cow's milk. Whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes contain no cholesterol and are low in fat, especially saturated fats. They are also high in fiber and other nutrients. Vegans say there are several plant based foods that are good sources of protein, such as beans, peanuts, and soya. * How are vegan cakes made? Baking a cake might seem impossible with no eggs, no milk and no butter, but it can be done. Vegan cakes, when done properly, have similar and sometimes the same textures as regular cakes. Thanks to the modern society that we live in, we have access to nifty things like Vegan cheese, Almond milk, non-dairy margarine and even Vegan sour cream. All a vegan cake or pastry really is, is a regular cake with a few substitutions. So instead of eggs, we use oil or bananas and even tofu to act as a binding agent. Non-dairy milks, ie. almond milk, soy milk and coconut milk not only helps to add moisture, but it gives the cakes a great flavour. And butter is substituted with margarine Vegan cakes are lower in fat due to the fact there is no eggs or butter in it. Eggs are high in cholesterol and fat, so eliminating them lowers the overall fat content in a vegan cake. Soy is high in fiber and protein, and when soy products are used, it helps with improving your heart health, and is safe for persons who are lactose intolerant. Sources:
